Xfinity Modem Router Blinking White – What To Do?

You probably have an Xfinity modem/router at your home, but it’s not working. The blinking white light on the Xfinity router indicates that something is wrong. The main reason for Xfinity router blinking white is unstable or has no internet connection. This problem can be easily solved by activating the Xfinity account, restarting the router, or resetting the gateway. But how do you do that? And why does this problem occurs? You will find answers to all these questions in this single article. Keep on reading.

Reasons Why Xfinity Gateway Blinking White

Xfinity router, despite being a top-notch device, sometimes runs into trouble. If you notice a blinking white light, it indicates certain problems. Want to know what sets off the blinking white light in the Xfinity router? Take a look at the list below.

Unstable Connection:

This white blinking signal indicates that the connection between the Xfinity router and the internet is interrupted. In other words, the blinking white light means the connection is not stable.

But this is not the only issue. Certain physical damage or factors can also lead to the white light blinking.

Damaged Wire

You already know that the white light on the Xfinity router blinks if the internet connection is interrupted. This interruption can occur due to damaged wire.

If the wire gets damaged, the connection between the router and the internet will be discontinued. And as a result, you will see the blinking white light.

The wire can be damaged due to many reasons. Probably your car has bitten into it, or something heavy fell on the wire.

Service Outage

The most common reason behind the Xfinity router blinking is a service outage. Your internet service provider (ISP) can intentionally keep the connection off due to maintenance. As the router won’t get any internet during this time, it will blink white light.

Apart from these, the issue behind your problem may be a loose connection of the wires or faulty splitters of the internet connection link. But whatever the reason may be, you don’t have anything to worry about because you will find the solution to everything here.

How To Fix Blinking White Light On Xfinity Router?

The problem of the Xfinity router blinking white is not that complicated. A few subtle adjustments can get your internet back in the flow. But you have to follow the right path to make sure everything is working fine. How do you do that? Check out the solutions below.

Solution 1: Activate the Xfinity Router

If you are having an issue with an Xfinity router you have just bought, chances are you haven’t activated it yet. Or it can also be the case that you activated the device in the wrong way.

In any case, the following guide will help you activate the Xfinity router properly. Here’s how to do it,

Step 1: Install the Xfinity app on your smartphone.

Before starting with the process, you have to install the Xfinity app. This is essential to get the router working. Click on this link and install the app on your phone.

Step 2: Sign in with your Xfinity ID and password

Log into your Xfinity app using the ID and password of your Xfinity account. If you don’t have an account, you can open an account from here

Step 3: Scan the QR code

Now you have to scan the QR code of the router with the Xfinity app. The code is either at the bottom or the side of the router. If your phone fails to scan the code, manually enter the 12-digit CM MAC number located near the QR code.

Step 4: Place the router appropriately

Now follow the instruction the app gives you and set your router accordingly.

Step 5: Set up the Router

Now choose a name and password for your WIFI network. You will have to do all these in the app. The password you set here will be the password of the WIFI.

Now, your Xfinity router will be activated. You may need to wait for a minute or two before the set-up is complete. And after that, the white light should be gone.

However, if the light stays on, no worries. Check the following solution.

Solution 2: Restart The Xfinity Router

Sometimes the internet connection just gets jammed in the router. This prevents stable internet, and as a result, a white light blinks on the device.

When I say the internet connection gets jammed, I mean that the cached memory gets full and it requires cleaning. The simplest way of cleaning the cache memory is to turn off the router, wait for 15 to 20 seconds, and put everything back on again. In other words, you have to restart the device.

Now the question is, how do you restart your Xfinity router? Well, it’s easy. You can do it from your phone. Here’s how,

  • Log into your Xfinity account
  • Open the “Internet” menu
  • Here select the “Restart this device” option
  • Confirm the decision by tapping on the “Restart Device” option

Now, all you have to do is wait for half a minute, and everything should get back to working just fine.

Solution 3: Ensure Stable Internet Connection

If restarting the router doesn’t solve the problem, chances are the router is not getting a stable connection from the internet provider. And if this is the case, no matter what you do, nothing will solve your issue.

So, at this point, you have to contact your internet provider and make sure that the internet connection is stable. If they inform you that some issues are going on, you have to wait until they fix everything. However, if everything is fine from their end, you have to take the next steps.

Check the further solution mentioned below to get your device back to working.

Solution 4: Reset The Xfinity Router

If everything is completely fine, but you are still not getting any internet, then don’t panic. Try resetting the Xfinity router. You have to perform a factory reset.

Here’s how to do it,

  • Locate the reset button at the back of the router (it’s a small button with a unique colour and there’s usually the word “reset” written below it)
  • Gently press and hold that button with a pen or paper clip
  • Keep the button pressed till the lights on the front of the router turn off (it can take a few seconds)
  • Stop pressing the button

Now reactivate the router as mentioned in Solution 1. Resetting basically deletes all the previous settings. This is why you have to reactivate the device again. But it will solve the problem you were having.

Conclusion

The problem of Xfinity gateway blinking white is quite common. But you have nothing to worry about if this problem occurs because now you know why it happens and what you can do to solve it. Just follow our instructions properly, and the white blinking light should go away. However, if you still encounter the problem, contact their customer care.
